Flash Points provides a critical overview of cultural trends and developments. As the title indicates, Flash Points is a direct response to issues raised within the media. It critically covers topics with a broad purview, ranging from latest news to new film trailers.
Contributions are welcome on either a regular or semi regular basis. Writers are invited to submit pieces between 500 and 2,000 words — these would appear as either sections within a larger feature or as a stand alone article.
We are currently on a biweekly publication schedule. Flash Points is usually published Friday morning — writers will therefore need to submit late in the week and can expect their writing to enjoy a relatively high profile over the weekend.
Contributors would obviously speak to issues that directly interest or concern them. We also welcome writers wishing to specialize in specific areas (music videos, comedy, politics, religion, computers, etc). Nonetheless, there may be the possibility of overlap with other writers on occasion.
If you think you might be interested in contributing, please contact Karen Zarker (zarker at popmatters dot com) with a pitch and/or example of writing. Given the nature of Flash Points, we require a quick turnaround from proposal to publication.
Please read a couple of Flash Points before applying and decide how you can contribute and/or distinguish yourself.
